Taking it in Our ‘Strid’

Skipton’s walking group first walk of the season 2024, took place to Bolton Abbey.

The walk started at Barden Bridge with fabulous parking skills demonstrated by the group organiser.

After a short flat walk through High Strid wood we found a perfect place for a rest watching the blue tits, great tit, bullfinch, robin enjoying the half coconut fat balls.

It was glorious when the sun came out.

Whilst looking for deer, one group member thought they saw lions and tigers and bears, we were that far out from civilisation!

The halfway point at the Cavendish Pavilion brought up a heated discussion about the distance of the walk so far, but that was quickly settled by the footpath sign and food! Think the group may have been hangry!

After mountain climbing past Lady Hariots seat it was definitely a flat walk along the footpath by the river.

The day was finished off with hot crispy bacon butties made by the group leader and homemade date and walnut cake kindly made by one of the group members.

Think we will try Simon Seat and the Valley of Desolation next time.
