TIME TO THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU DRINK SAY NORTH YORKSHIRE HORIZONS

North Yorkshire Horizons has developed a short online quiz for people to understand the damage they can do to themselves, ahead of this year’s Alcohol Awareness Week, taking place between 11-17 November.

The quiz asks such questions as: How many calories are in a glass of wine? How long does it take your body to break down alcohol? And which age group drinks the most?

This week, the North Yorkshire drug & alcohol service will join over 2,000 groups across the UK to highlight the impact that alcohol can have on our bodies, our lives and those we love. By making changes to our drinking behaviour we can become healthier and our risk for many serious health conditions including cancer, mental health problems, and liver disease.

Mark Vidgen, Operations Director of North Yorkshire Horizons, said: “It can be extremely easy to slip into bad habits when drinking alcohol. We’re encouraging people to consider what how much they drink, and to make small changes.

“We’ve developed a short quiz to help people understand the damage they can do to themselves. We’re also providing advice on how to change drinking behaviour for the better. Using an app, such as Drink Coach, to track drinking and help motivation, is really helpful.”

This is just one of a regular set of campaigns run by North Yorkshire Horizons as part of the ongoing work to support people with issues around alcohol and drug use. For more information see our website nyhorizons.org.uk or telephone 08000 14 14 80.
