I am one of the volunteers in the Selby hub. So my role at Selby hub is peer mentoring which is the main thing but I’m also a smart recovery facilitator and I also do the smoking cessation as well so offer brief advice. I also do the recovery cafes – that;s a drop-in twice a week where we can give advice to people.
I love it, I absolutely love it. As a service user myself it’s great to give back you know because they helped me so much it;s a fantastic way of giving back.
I think they’re absolutely fantastic. All the staff are welcoming. There’s no judgement and they’re so open and honest and helpful. It doesn’t matter what your addiction is there is somebody there that will listen to you. Just do it, the hardest thing is walking through the door and asking for the help. Once you’ve got that out of the way, it’s just easy just to be honest and open.
