Offering new horizons to local people

In Catterick, Northallerton Hub’s Craig Bosomworth and Ruth Hasney, attended a military health fair to promote North Yorkshire Horizons.

Over the two days of the event, a total of 10 different regiments and 300 soldiers attended. Craig and Ruth were able to discuss the effects of long-term drug and alcohol use and pathways to seeking help, including Military Smart.

At Harrogate Hospital, our workers set up a stall close to the accident and emergency department to catch the attention of as many hospital staff, visitors and patients as possible. Workers Holly Bell and Julie Moore reported “fantastic feedback.”

Many health professionals were keen to ask for advice for patients who were struggling with alcohol and drug misuse. Passing members of the public stopped to learn more about what Horizons offers as a service. The success of the four-hour stint at the hospital has encouraged the team to repeat the effort “every few months” to keep spreading awareness and encouraging people to reach out for support.
